Universal Music Group is deepening its offerings in Brazil.
The world s largest recorded music company is launching a label and artist services division of Virgin Music in the country and is partnering for global distribution and marketing with WorkShow, one of Brazil’s leading sertanejo music management companies.
Virgin Music’s newly launched division, which will be based in Universal Music Brazil’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, will focus on supporting the next wave of Brazilian independent artist talent, labels, influencers and entrepreneurs, Universal says in a press release.

After hosting an all-female songwriter camp in Beijing with global non-profit She is the Music in June, Universal Music Publishing (UMP) China hopes the initiative serves as the blueprint for future writer gatherings under its Untagged 2021 banner.
The mission of the Untagged series, according to
Joe Fang, who assumed the post of managing director of UMP China a year ago, is to highlight underrepresented groups and provide growth opportunities to younger songwriters. “Sometimes by default, when looking for new songs, clients will just look at the names of the songwriter and their previous track record,” he says. “With Untagged we want to present the music to partners and have them make judgments just based on listening to the song, not by judging who the writer is or how popular they are already.”
