House Bill 195 by Rep. Sherry Dorsey Walker, D-Wilmington, would require all police officers and certain employees from the Department of Correction and Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families to wear the cameras. The governor, the attorney general, the Statehouse s majority party, activists and police support the statewide body camera mandate  all but ensuring it s a done deal in Delaware. Lawmakers are likely to pass the bill before the legislative session ends June 30.

Delaware News Journal Ashton Coleman walked out of a doctor’s appointment Tuesday morning to a text from her daughter, Keely. Something had happened at Smyrna Middle School, Keely wrote, but she didn’t know what. The school was on lockdown, and the seventh grader’s gym teacher had told the class to lock the doors and close the blinds. Immediately, Coleman assumed there had been a school shooting. Smyrna Police investigating shooting in parking lot of Smyrna Middle School

Delaware News Journal A 38-year-old Smyrna woman died Tuesday after being shot in the front parking lot of Smyrna Middle School, according to police. Smyrna Police Lt. Brian Donner said the shooting occurred around 10:15 a.m. Around two hours later, Donner said police located the sole suspect, a 47-year-old Smyrna man, in Maryland after a pursuit by multiple police agencies. The man had crashed his car in Galena, Maryland on Maryland Route 213 some 20 miles from the school. He was airlifted to a Maryland hospital, according to Cpl. Jason Hatchell of Delaware State Police. Donner said the homicide is believed to be domestic related.
