As Joe Biden prepared to be sworn in as the 46th president Wednesday morning, a handful of President Donald Trump supporters gathered at Legislative Mall in Dover some to mourn those killed in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the nation s Capitol.
Four men, led by Wilmington resident Chris Rowe, began by laying a flower arrangement and photograph of Ashli Babbitt, the California business owner who was killed by police, on the west end of Legislative Mall.
After a short prayer, the group walked to the Delaware Law Enforcement Memorial, located on the south side of the mall, and placed another arrangement to memorialize U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

There exists in Delaware and in all of America a growing movement to enact ranked choice voting (RCV). Locales and states are enacting RCV at an exponentially growing rate. Many folks have questions about ranked choice voting including how it works, why it’s so good for democracy, where it currently exists, and who endorses it.
Here’s how RCV works. Instead of picking one candidate, you rank multiple candidates in order of preference with no requirement to include a candidate in your rankings if you don’t support them at all. Let’s say there are five candidates running for Governor Smith, Jones, Gonzalez, Brown, and Williams. I have preferences amongst three of the candidates, but I don’t like two of them at all. It s common this time of year for news organizations to compile lists of the year s biggest stories.

Here s our list: COVID-19. Criminal justice protests. Joe Biden election.
Those three events dominated our year as well as the Delaware Online and The News Journal pages.
But you ve read all that, many times over, from many outlets. So, instead of a list of big stories, I asked the staff to send me their favorite story, photo or video they produced. No rules. Just what was your favorite and why.
The message came over Sussex County s fire/EMS radio channel just after 7:53 p.m. Thursday. Police action for gunshots, 19540 Coastal Highway, Econo Lodge, the dispatcher said urgently. Medics requested.
Responding paramedics rushed to the motel near Rehoboth Beach, but they were too late.
Police were already on their way to Beebe Healthcare with a Milford police officer who had been shot multiple times by a fugitive he was trying to apprehend. And the suspect, a 37-year-old wanted for attempted murder in Pennsylvania, was dead.
A day later, it remains unclear exactly how the incident outside the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites Resort unfolded. But witnesses said it happened quickly – and chaotically.
