New Delhi:Â The Pakistani government has approved a plan to increase milk production in the country and consequently kickstart the country’s economy, by breeding American cows.
To this end, the Imran Khan-led government will distribute the semen of American bulls worth Rs 40 billion (approximately Rs 1,912 crore) to farmers free of cost.
According to the government’s plan, they will provide the semen of the exotic American breed to the farmers for the next three years in a bid to increase milk production from 4 litres to 15 litres per cow.
Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, the newly-appointed special assistant to the PM on food security, said that Pakistani cows produce 1,100 litres of milk a year, compared to the 11,000 litres that is produced by an American cow.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said keeping in view the vital role of agriculture in the country’s development and farmers’ prosperity, the agriculture sector development is among the top priorities of the government.
While presiding over a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Agriculture here on Tuesday, the prime minister said the agriculture sector had not been given due attention since 1960.
He directed the officials concerned to formulate a clear roadmap based on solid steps for the revival of the agriculture sector across the country ensuring provision of more facilities to farmers along with an environment conducive to boost the production of wheat, maize, rice and sugarcane.
