Three Ethiopian soldiers have been convicted of rape and one of killing a civilian in Ethiopia s Tigray region, the government said on Friday, the first public statement that soldiers had been found guilty of crimes against civilians in the conflict.
Twenty-eight more soldiers are on trial for killing civilians and 25 for acts of sexual violence and rape, the statement from the attorney general s office said.
Awol Sultan, the spokesman for the attorney general s office, could not immediately be reached for comment for further details or whether the records would be made public. Neither could military spokesman General Mohammed Tessema.

Asmara, 13 May 2021- On the invitation of President Isaias Afwerki, President of the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency Alpha Conte arrived in Asmara today in the afternoon hours for a two-day working visit.
On arrival at the Asmara International Airport, President Alpha Conte and his delegation were accorded a warm welcome by President Isaias Afwerki.
The two heads of state will discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations and continental issues of mutual importance.
Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab were present at the welcoming ceremony.
It is to be recalled that President Alpha Conte during his visit to Massawa in February 2019 conducted an extensive discussion with President Isaias on Africa’s rightful place and role in the global order among other matters.
On Sudan visit, Eritrea’s president discusses tensions with Ethiopia
The two-day visit comes after Sudan in February accused a third party of siding with Ethiopia in its border dispute with Sudan. It was likely referring to Eritrea.

CAIRO – Eritrea’s president arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday for talks with Sudanese officials amid tensions over a longt-term border dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia.
President Isaias Afwerki landed at Khartoum’s international airport and was received by General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, head of Sudan’s ruling sovereign council. The two leaders then began closed-door talks on cooperation and ways to develop ties between their two countries, according to a statement from the Sudanese sovereign council.

Asmara, 06 May 2021- President Isaias Afwerki returned home in the morning hours of today, 6 May, concluding a two-day fruitful working visit to the Sudan at an invitation of Gen. Abdel Fatah al Burhan, President of the Sudan’s Sovereign Council.
During his stay in Sudan President Isaias Afwerki met and held talks with Gen. Abdel Fatah Burhan, Prime Minister Abdella Hamdock, and Foreign Minister al Sadiq al Mahdi on strengthening bilateral relations and regional issues of interest to the two countries.
In the meeting President Isaias and Gen, al Burhan conducted they reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to further consolidate their bilateral ties rooted in common history and shared values and agreed to strengthen their efforts in the implementation of the Agreement of Cooperation reached between the two countries in various sectors.
