COALAR: Hydrogen meets the dairy industry

A newly launched project is exploring the hydrogen opportunities for dairy industries in Australia and Uruguay – and its being supported by the Commonwealth Government’s Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR). Dubbed COALAR, the landmark hydrogen dairy project is being led by the Hycel team at Deakin’s Warrambool campus, Deakin’s Latin American office in Montevideo, Uruguay and delivered in partnership with Food and Fibre Great South Coast. Together, the project combines Hycel’s industry-led hydrogen expertise with Food and Fibre Great South Coast’s agricultural networks to produce a hydrogen dairy industry feasibility study, global webinar and key message campaign.

Hycel goes global with new hydrogen dairy project

Deakin Deakin University’s Hycel will investigate the hydrogen opportunities for dairy industries in Australia and Uruguay thanks to the support of a Commonwealth Government’s Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) grant. The landmark COALAR hydrogen dairy project will be led by the Hycel team at Deakin’s Warrnambool campus, Deakin’s Latin American office in Montevideo, Uruguay and delivered in partnership with Food and Fibre Great South Coast. Hycel is a regional hub of hydrogen expertise located in Victoria’s south west along a key transport corridor that connects industries, communities, and resources. Hydrogen hubs are a core element of Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy and provide industry with a springboard to scale.

An industry with legs: Australia s first edible insects roadmap

CSIRO Australia can become a player in the billion-dollar global edible insect industry, producing nutritious, sustainable, and ethical products to support global food security, according to a new roadmap by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO. Launched today (Thursday April 29, 2021), Edible insects: A roadmap for the strategic growth of an emerging Australian industry, lays out a comprehensive plan for the emerging industry, exploring the challenges, opportunities, cultural values, sustainability, and health outcomes of the edible insect industry in Australia. Co-funded by CSIRO and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR), the roadmap provides a framework within Australia for First Nations initiatives, start-ups, insect businesses, researchers, policy makers, and community members interested in engaging with the industry.
