Matthew Mott signs two-year contract extension, Ben Sawyer returns to coaching group World-Cup winning coach Matthew Mott has signed a two-year contract extension that will ensure he remains at the helm of the Australian Women’s Team until at least September 2023. Within that period, Mott will lead Australia, the number one ranked ODI and T20 team in the world, across two Ashes series, an ODI and T20 World Cup and an inaugural Commonwealth Games campaign.
Commenting on Mott’s extension, Cricket Australia Executive General Manager, High Performance and National Teams, Ben Oliver said:
“We are thrilled to confirm that Matthew will continue on as head coach of the Australian Women’s Team until after the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023.

Australia’s qualification for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games confirmed The Australian Women’s Team is set to compete in Birmingham next year following Commonwealth Games Australia’s acceptance, with the agreement of Cricket Australia, of the qualification place from the Commonwealth Games Federation. Women’s T20 cricket will make its debut at the Commonwealth Games with Australia automatically qualifying due to their No. 1 world ranking as at April 1, 2021.
The cricket program begins on July 29, 2022 and concludes with the gold medal match at Edgbaston on August 7, 2022.
Meg Lanning, Australia’s captain, said the team were excited to compete for gold in Birmingham.

Murwillumbah woman Madeleine Edwards has caught the eyes of professionals after her performance in woodchopping at the Royal Easter Show.
The 30-year-old competed at the Sydney show last weekend in what she described as the âWimbledonâ of woodchopping where she was award the Annual Achievement award.

âIt was pretty surreal,â Edwards said.
âIt was my first timing being in Sydney and only having been in the sport 18 months, to be up there among the best female competitors in the world, itâs encouraging to keep going.â
