DURING a prolonged incident at a Salvation Army hostel, a resident levelled vile racist abuse, with threats of violence, against a Bulgarian receptionist after she refused to call a takeaway about his order. Michael Wilson, 55, looks likely to have lost his accommodation at Fellowship House, Ryde, after he admitted using racially aggravated threatening and abusive words and behaviour, to cause alarm and distress, provoking a fear of violence, on July 2. The victim, on duty at the hostel s front desk, was confronted by Wilson, who became irate when she said she knew nothing of a takeaway meal he ordered. He then demanded she contact the takeaway establishment. When she said she wouldn t, he started shouting, said Ann Smout, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.

THE case of a Ventnor woman who stole more than £1,000 worth of items from Sainsbury s and Asda, including a hot tub, has been heard by magistrates. Annabel Claire Calvert, of Lowtherville Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (June 29). The 39-year-old admitted three counts of theft, between May 26 and 28. Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court Calvert and an accomplice had entered Asda in Newport, on May 27. She said, at approximately 6.30pm, the pair went around the store, filling their trollies with various items, including a hot tub. She said the total value of the stolen goods was around £560, and they made no attempt to pay.

A MAN stamped on the ankle of someone who was taking photos and video of his motorcycle, an Isle of Wight court was told. Breandan Cathal Ashby admitted common assault against Stephen Dimond and causing criminal damage to his phone, in Freshwater, on February 12. Mr Dimond heard a motorcycle in the street and went outside to take a picture of what he assumed was the vehicle in question, outside the Co-op store in Avenue Road. He told police he did it because of speeding issues through the village and that he wanted to send them motorbike registration numbers. Ashby, 19, of Sunset Close, Freshwater, was inside the store shopping for his father when he saw Mr Dimond taking photos and video of his motorcycle.
