Anthony Edward Ayres, of no fixed address, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He admitted common assault, and assault by beating, on April 23. Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Ayres had been a resident at Sandham House at the time of the incident. She said he threatened a fellow guest while drunk, and approached another with clenched fists. Mrs Smout said he later punched one victim in the stomach, causing considerable pain. In police interview, Ayres admitted making threats, and told police he could not recall most of what happened. He said the assault was just banter on his part , believing the victim to be his friend, but said he was sorry if he hurt him.

A JUDGE told an offender he would be amazed how many times a diagnosis of ADHD was used as an excuse for criminal behaviour, at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday. Scott George Parker, 18, of Whitepit Lane, had chased someone down the street while carrying two kitchen knives, and threatened his neighbours along the way. He admitted possession of a knife in a public place, and two counts of using threatening or abusive words to cause harassment, alarm or distress, on the evening of March 14. He was also in breach of a conditional discharge for a previous offence.

INCENSED environmental health officers took away all his sound equipment, a Freshwater man hurled a plant pot through a neighbour s car window, which resulted in him being jailed. Tomas Daniel Bateman admitted causing criminal damage to a car, belonging to Brian Leach who he blamed for a noise nuisance complaint against him last Friday (April 23). Subsequently, Bateman, of The Square, Freshwater, activated a suspended sentence order hanging over him made by Island magistrates in January for arson, growing cannabis and common assault against his mother last year. He was imprisoned for three months. The 31-year-old got drunk on three bottles of rum, and high on butane gas, after he discovered council officers had entered his property which adjoins Mr Leach s and confiscated any electronic equipment capable of making sound, from his TV to a sound system, said Ann Smout, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Monday.

Ryan David Salter, 22, of Oaklands View, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He admitted drink driving on September 12, 2020. Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court police had been called to Newport Road, Cowes, at around 3am in the morning. A member of the public had reported a car had crashed into a tree. The court heard how, when police arrived at the scene, Salter was found standing by the car with facial injuries and blood on his clothes. Ms Miller said the two passengers in the vehicle had suffered serious injuries, and one was described as “bleeding a lot”.
