Alcohol, cell phone use suspected in car crash Ellsworth Police Log Week of March 4 ELLSWORTH A Charleston resident crashed his 2007 Toyota pickup while operating under the influence and texting, according to Cpl. Shawn Merchant, who responded to the accident on Nicolin Road on Feb. 20. However, the 38-year-old driver, Guy R. Mitchell, had left the scene 90 minutes earlier. Mitchell was driving fast, Merchant said, and when he came to a sharp corner overcorrected, sending the truck into a skid. The Toyota then left the road, striking a telephone pole, before Mitchell drove off. Mitchell was picked up later in Penobscot County and arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant. He also was summoned by Ellsworth Police on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and failure to report by quickest means. Child left in car recovering from hypothermia, frostbite ELLSWORTH A 1-year-old child left in a car is recovering from hypothermia and frostbite at a local hospital, according to police. The child’s mother, Ashley Bragg, 32, of Ellsworth, was arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with aggravated assault, Class B and assault on a child less than 6 years old, Class C, in addition to the Class D charges of domestic violence assault, endangering the welfare of a child and domestic violence reckless conduct. Bragg was released from jail on $5,000 unsecured bail later that day and then arrested again on Feb. 22 for allegedly having contact with the child’s father, a violation of her bail conditions.
