Ennis held its 69th Bluebonnet Trail Festival

Waxahachie Daily Light The 69th Bluebonnet Trails Festival took place this past weekend in Ennis, from Friday, April 16, through Sunday, April 18, with vendors and food trucks covering downtown. Although Friday seemed to be a bit gloomy in the weather, the festival began at 1 p.m. after postponement. A $5 entrance fee was needed to get into the festival, with access to all the live entertainment. Owner of local shop Scentsy, Tiffany Burns, has been a part of the festival since 2014. She had her tent up and filled with many of her waxes. “Amazing. There’s been a lot of people, foot traffic since the doors opened,” Burns shared. “It was rainy on the first day, so I didn’t think there was going to be a whole lot of people, but there was quite a bit of traffic.”

How Texas winter storm could affect 2021 bluebonnets and wildflowers

Hope sprung up for an early and abundant wildflower season around Texas when the first beloved bluebonnets of 2021 surprised Houston in January. By mid-February, hope froze to death with the rest of the state. Now that Texas has thawed out and we re back to shorts-weather, the question on every wildflower watcher’s mind is: What ll happen with our bluebonnets? The answer, Texas horticulture experts say, is hard to pinpoint because Winter Storm Uri was such an extreme and unusual weather event. But Texans needn t worry. The state flower is still going to blanket fields, parks, and roadsides this year. We ll just need to be patient, experts say, because their grand entrance could be delayed.

Ennis aids neighbor cities with water outages during winter storm

Waxahachie Daily Light As the month of March begins, the city of Ennis is reflecting on how the community came together in the midst of the winter storm and handled its prolonging effects. Compared to surrounding cities, Ennis never faced water troubles, thanks to the hard work of city staff.  The water and wastewater departments worked 24 hours a day to keep the plants and systems running. Several water main breaks were repaired in extremely cold and hazardous conditions. Ennis was never without water or under a boil notice, said Ashley Colunga, the city s marketing and communications director. Since Ennis had working water, it supported the surrounding cities of Rice and Garrett by providing additional water and a standalone water distribution site in Garrett. Ennis additionally helped facilitate a water logistic site, where members of the Army National Guard brought water to be distributed to neighboring communities under a boil notice.
