Grooves on the Green returns to celebrate 20th anniversary

MUSIC festival Grooves on the Green, in Ashley Cross, is set to return next month. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, and in recognition of the community’s grateful thanks for their efforts in the pandemic, the festival is giving away 50 tickets each day to NHS workers. “Grooves is a fantastic day out for all the family,” said event organiser Jan Crump, who started the festival in 2000 as a way of bringing the Ashley Cross community together. “Obviously, for all the right reasons, last year’s festival couldn’t happen but now we’re back and more determined than ever to create a weekend to remember.

Brand new delicatessen to open in Poole next week

A HIGH-end delicatessen is to open its doors in Poole, having taken inspiration from Harrods and Selfridges. Nicholas James Delicatessen will officially open on Tuesday, July 27 on Station Road, Ashley Cross. The deli will replace Isabel’s Restaurant, which closed in January after more than 40 years of trading. The deli’s manager Pierre Van Wyk told the Daily Echo that the Ashley Cross store would hopefully be the first of many, and that they couldn’t wait to begin trading. He said: “This is a high-end and high-quality delicatessen with lots of local produce that we’re sure people will enjoy. We will be selling products that you won’t find anywhere other than the likes of Harrods and Selfridges.

BCP residents praised for heroic acts in ambulance crash aftermath

Danny Lawrence, from Christchurch, had just pulled up in his car to visit some friends in Ashley Cross when he heard two loud bangs. He said: “People said I was like Usain Bolt because I ran so fast to the ambulance to see what had happened. “The adrenaline kicked in and I just acted on instinct. As I jumped on top of the ambulance, someone lifted my foot up and helped me on top of it. “I opened the door and asked the two women in the front ‘are you OK? Do either of you have any injuries?’ They said that they were fine, but they were a little bit shaken up.”

Four injured in Poole crash which left ambulance on its side

The incident took place at the junction with Parr Street just after 2pm. BCP Council’s highways team were also requested due to fluid in the road. A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 2.21pm on Friday, July 9, of a collision involving a car and an ambulance on Commercial Road in Poole. “It was reported that the ambulance was on its side. “The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident. “The local authority was requested to clear fluid in the road.” The eastbound lane towards Bournemouth was closed and officers diverted traffic while the ambulance and the car were both recovered.
