ArtsinStark s new CEO share his goals for the area arts scene

David Whitehill, the new president and CEO of ArtinStark, is bursting with enthusiasm about the opportunities ahead for him in Stark County. You re going to get a passionate and visible advocate in the community, that s what ArtsinStark is buying, Whitehill said about himself, via telephone from Asheville, N.C., last week.  And not just for the arts, for the community, he said. I truly admire the organization and the work that ArtsinStark is doing, but I m coming because of the people I met. It s clear their commitment to each other and the community really means something in Stark County. To be leaving Asheville, a lively cultural mecca and tourist hub, for Canton, is a significant move for Whitehill, who had been executive director of the Asheville Symphony since 2012.

Canton-based ArtsinStark names David Whitehill as new leader

CANTON  ArtsinStark has a new leader. The ArtsinStark Board of Directors announced Tuesday it has hired David Whitehill as its next president and CEO, who will begin his new position on Feb. 1. An Asheville, N.C. resident, Whitehill has served for the past eight years as executive director of the Asheville Symphony, the largest employer of the performing arts in the 17-county Western North Carolina region, according to a news release from ArtsinStark. I love the area, Whitehill said via phone. Stark County is big enough to be diverse, yet small-town accessible. It is historic with a progressive vibe. It is a place that takes pride in its past while finding creative solutions to drive its future.
