Illinois College Team brings back a National Championship Title

The IC Dance Team competed at the Dance Team Union College Classic National Invitational held at the Marriott World Center in Orlando, Florida April 10 th and 11 The team competed in the Open division of Hip-Hop with their money themed routine. They were against six teams in the NCAA Division I, II, III,and NAIA placing 4 th overall in the nation. This is the second time in Illinois College History that the team has been to a national competition, the first was in 2019 when the team competed at NDA College Nationals.

Texas Tech University’s pistol-toting mascot took top honors competing at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) & National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida. In typical Texas Tech fashion, Raider Red finished in first place in the Mascot division for the first time ever with a score of 94.27, beating out Sam Houston State University’s second-place finisher Sammy the Bearkat by 1.83 points. “I’m so excited for Raider Red!” said Bruce Bills, head cheer and mascot coach. “With games and events being altered all year due to COVID-19, this championship is the perfect way to end the year.”

Texas Tech spirit squads win big at National Championships

Special to the Avalanche-Journal Texas Tech’s Pom and Co-Ed Cheer squads, part of the university’s Spirit Program, competed Friday at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) & National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Pom Squad finished in first place in both the Division IA Pom category and the Division IA Dance Jazz category, while the Co-Ed Cheer Squad took second place in the Co-Ed Cheer category, falling behind Oklahoma State University by one point. This is the sixth national title for the Pom Squad, three for pom and three for jazz. It finished first in jazz in 2017 and 2018 and first in pom in 2018, the first year the squad competed in the pom category.
