OC Sheriff’s Employee Suspended In Capitol Riot-Related Investigation Syndicated Local – CBS Los Angeles
SANTA ANA (CBSLA) An Orange County Sheriff’s Department employee has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation after attending the rally that preceded the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
According to the department, sheriff’s special officer Monica Alston was placed on administrative leave Jan. 21 after social media posts on the day of the insurrection prompted an internal investigation.
Sheriff’s special officers are sworn agents who have the same authority as deputies while on duty, but not while off duty, according to the department.

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) A special officer with the Orange County Sheriff s Department is under investigation in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The OCSD confirms that special officer Monica Alston is on administrative leave pending the result of the investigation.
The FBI has also confirmed that agents searched Alston s Irvine home.
The Orange County Register reports that Alston posted social media photos of herself outside the Capitol and a video from inside the building.
The position of special officer is not a full sheriff s deputy but is used for assignments such as security at airports, courthouses and jails.
