Lupita Flores stands next to her pieces “City” and “Half Rings.” Flores is a local Latina artist whose work will be featured at EagleARTS@ARTSPaCE workshop and gallery on Friday during ARTwalk.
EagleARTS will present the 2nd Friday ARTwalk Food Truck Fiesta from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday to kick off its outdoor summer series. With Broadway closed between Grand Avenue and Fourth Street, local artists and businesses will have outdoor booths, specials, dine-in and take-out food as well as featured artists and gifts.
Businesses along Broadway in Eagle will also be open late.
“We’re also thrilled to have over seven food trucks joining us from throughout Colorado, including Cheese Love Grill, Cirque Kitchen, The Rolling Fork, and Lucky Mary’s Baking and Sweets Company,” the event announcement says.
The Aspen and Carbondale community schools will hold a mid-May fundraiser that they hope will set them on the right financial path for 2021-22.
“We had to have the support of children and families in order to stay open,” said Michael Hayes, executive director of Compass, the nonprofit that runs the two K-8 schools, both of which stayed open the entire academic year by offering in-person classroom learning. “We functioned as a community and we rose to the occasion.”
In keeping with that spirit, the organization is soldiering onward with an adapted version of its annual Family Hoedown fundraiser. It’s impossible this year to invite the public into a horse arena for dinner, games, contests and rides on the mechanical bull, but there is still a way for families to support the school financially and score great deals on meals, vacations, gift certificates and other goodies.
Drive-In movies are coming to Grand Junction this summer.
Movie lovers are going to have another option this summer in Grand Junction as Mesa Mall launches its first-ever Summer Cinema Series.
A Parking Lot Becomes a Drive-In
The former Sutherlands parking lot will be transformed into a drive-in theatre one Friday night a month from May through September. The movies are free, but space for vehicles is limited and a ticket will be required to enter the event. Tickets will be available on the Mesa Mall website.
Mesa Mall is teaming up with Alpine Bank and the Community Food Bank for this movie night event. While admission is free, attendees will be encouraged to bring donations of food for the food bank as an entry fee. Cash donations for the Community Food Bank will also be accepted. Local popcorn vendor Goodie Gourmet will be on-site for each Friday night movie event.

Commencement at Colorado Mountain College is always a special day, but this year was different.
And, not different because students wore masks or because they had to physically distance. Different, in that commencement was not just a fleeting moment of joy. It was a triumphant celebration for hundreds of students who overcame hardship after hardship to get to this point.
Students, who in the face of a devastating pandemic, ruthless wildfires and divisive civil unrest, had the courage to push forward and make this one of the largest graduating classes in the history of Colorado Mountain College.
