An annual Christmas tradition for both families and dancers, the curtain will not rise on Alberta Ballet’s The Nutcracker this year.
The province’s social distancing rules has shuttered all theatre events, with this particular ballet being one of the most notable for its absence after 29 years. This past Wednesday would have been opening night in Calgary.

The Nutcracker more than 29 years ago, and since that auspicious debut, have performed four unique versions. The current version is by Edmund Stripe, which has been performed since 2008. The ballet employs over 100 people behind the scenes to produce
