Over the weekend, the People’s United Party hosted four Delegate Conventions to elect Municipal Slates in Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Benque Viejo Del Carmen. Belize City had its convention for the People’s United Party at the Belize Elementary auditorium on Saturday. Of the 22 persons vying to be councilor candidates the top ten elected were Allan Pollard, Micah Goodin, Kaya Cattouse, Javier Castellanos, Edmund Kwan, Deannie Requena, Natasha Pipersburgh, Albert Vaughan, Michael Novelo, and Stephanne Michelle Hamilton. Current Mayor Bernard Wagner is seeking a re-election and went uncontested this weekend. Meanwhile in Belmopan, as many as six candidates had eyes on the mayoral seat. And about that convention…while the U.D.P. opted for a virtual event earlier this month, the P.U.P. held an event that attracted a large gathering. There are concerns about it being a possible COVID super spreader. With numbers declining, did the P.U.P. get too relaxed to host this event? Today, we asked Councilor Candidate Albert Vaughan about this concern and here’s what he had to say.

Poor road conditions are a perennial problem across the country as infrastructure remains a critical issue in urban and rural areas. It’s no secret that Belize City has a street infrastructure problem and although works have been done over the years to improve the streets, a lot more needs to be done. Tonight, we’ll tell you about one street that is in urgent need of repairs for a few years now; and while short term efforts are made every so often, users of the street are clamoring for a more permanent solution. It is a street that sees a fair amount of traffic, as it is where the dialysis center is situated and users of this essential service say that the road condition has been a pain in their side for far too long.
