Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is returning to the Reno-Sparks area for the first time since 2008, opening their new location in Sparks. The doughnut franchise hosted a grand opening on Tuesday, March 16, at its location at 55 Los Altos Parkway in Sparks.  Beginning on Tuesday and continuing through Saturday, March 21, the new store will randomly surprise 120 customers with a Celebration Dozen Ticket that provides one free dozen of the original glazed doughnuts every month for a year. After opening in December 2001, the first Krispy Kreme in Reno was a success for the first few years at its 5050 Kietzke Lane location. However, the store was closed in May 2008 by Las Vegas-based Krispy Kreme franchisee Westward Dough due to operating costs related to shipping in supplies to Reno.
