It looks like the Alton Memorial Day Parade will feature most of what spectators have come to expect over the years, as the entries for this year’s event continue to come in. Marching bands, floats, and candy are all part of the celebration in Upper Alton, which will return to full strength after a miniature parade last year due to the pandemic.
This year s parade will step off from Alton Middle School at 10am on May 31. East End Improvement Association spokesman Steve Schwartz tells The Big Z participant interest has been pretty good.

The All-Wheels Drive-In Car Show is back on the calendar. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole passed a resolution at last (Monday) night’s meeting to close certain streets along the 3
rd Street corridor on June 13
th to allow participants and spectators to gather for the show that traditionally features hot rods, live music, and in recent years a pin-up contest.
The committee also approved a resolution requesting IDOT allow for the closure of certain streets in Upper Alton on May 31
st for the 154
th annual Alton Memorial Day Parade. Organizers are moving ahead with planning the event, expecting the return of the full parade this year. Last year a small, unannounced procession traveled the route to keep the consecutive-years streak going. These and other items will go before the full council for approval tomorrow (Wednesday) night.
