ALTON City employees on Thursday removed the last of the Christmas garland that had been put up at Lincoln-Douglas Square in downtown Alton.
The decorations in the square compliment the annual Alton Christmas Tree erected by Alton Godfrey Rotary Club members each year for the last quarter of a century. In previous years people packed the square for ceremonies related to the lighting of the tree, which often included a visit by Santa and Christmas carols sung by children.
