“We realized we we’re going to need to put the sound system into use,” Buck said. “And so we were talking about mics, and having to look at rentals, because we didn’t have enough. Then we realized because they have to put masks on backstage to be safe when they’re not on stage, we were going to have a lot of noise interference if their mics were on their cheeks because the masks were going to be going on and off.”
And so we decided we have to put them in their hairline, which, of course, means – you can’t touch your face, you can’t touch your face, you can’t gesture near your head, because we get that excess noise.”

Mill Mountain Theatre presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream. All performances will be outside on the front lawn of Heights Community Church. There are shows Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. You do not need a reservation and are encouraged to pay what you can.
It’s the last weekend of Botetourt County’s Restaurant Week. You’ll find specials for $10, $20 and $30 at dozens of restaurants. Restaurant weekends on Sunday.
Hike for Hope is on Saturday in Bedford. Money raised supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It’s Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Claytor Nature Center.
Roanoke Valley theater fans familiar with the career of Pat Wilhelms wonât be surprised that sheâs launched a new theater venture featuring acting workshops for children.
When she had a parting of the ways with Mill Mountain Theatre after 10 years as education director, she went on to found Roanoke Childrenâs Theatre â now Virginia Childrenâs Theatre â one of the valleyâs biggest artistic success stories.
In 2020, Wilhelms and VCT went separate ways after 12 years, and in March, Wilhelms raised the curtain on PB&J Theatre Co. in Roanokeâs Grandin Village.
âItâs all about connectivity and unity,â Wilhelms said. âThis, we thought would fit right in, bringing another component to this great neighborhood.â
