First commercial 5G service in Indonesia
Tue, 1 June 2021
State-owned telecommunication operator Telkomsel launched on May 28 the first commercial 5G service in Indonesia, thereby testing the market for such a premium data service.
Telkomsel president director Setyanto Hantoro said that, in the initial stage, 5G services would be made available in residential areas of Jakarta and South Tangerang given potentially high consumer demand for data services in those areas.
The 5G service would be available in Alam Sutera and Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) in South Tangerang; Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) and Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta; as well as Pondok Indah and Kawasan Widya Chandra in South Jakarta, all of which are high-end residential areas.

What goes up: World Nature Photography Award winners
The World Nature Photography Awards have just announced the winners of their 2020 competition, showcasing an array of talented photographers from around the world.
The grand prize winner award went to Thomas Vijayan for his image of the endangered Bornean orangutan. Vijayan spent hours up a tree, waiting to see if one of the local orangutans would use it to cross over to a nearby island.
Adrian Dinsdale, co-founder of the WNPAs, said: “We’ve been thrilled with the quality of work that was entered into the awards. It was such a privilege to see the competition’s philosophy come to life – our photographers really are shining a spotlight on the wonders of the natural world in a way that reminds us to do everything we can to protect the future of our planet.”

Indonesian high yield companies that had limited access to the international bond market this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic are now preparing for a challenging 2021 unless sentiment gets a dramatic boost from the vaccine news. Morgan Davis reports.
This year presented a number of hurdles for Indonesian corporations. As of December 14, the country of nearly 275m people had reported 618,000 cases of the Covid-19 virus. The semi-lockdown policy that was put in place to battle the spread of the pandemic squeezed manufacturing and exports. Moody s predicts the country s GDP will contract 2% in 2020.
Still, a number of Indonesian borrowers, including the sovereign, sold international bonds in 2020.
The need for intimacy is among the few things that still occupy people s minds amid the pandemic. All around the world people are seeking solutions to be together amid quarantining, and dating applications offer ways to find new romances.
Bogor resident Dilla, 23, was not looking for a boyfriend when she signed up for a new Bumble account in June.
“I wanted to look for a pen pal who would be up for conversation via email because I was bored,” Dilla told The Jakarta Post in early December.
Dilla said she set her search to the farthest location as she was unsure she would meet her matches in person due to the pandemic.
