If I would have known my last show before the pandemic would be my last show for well, who knows how long? I might have cried onstage. Live music is a profound experience for any musical soul. It’s an incomparable adventure: playing songs that were birthed in the privacy of your inner world in front of an audience, feeding off their energy, giving them yours.
It’s almost, dare I say, sexual. It’s the closest thing to a communal spiritual experience I’ve found what I imagine religious folks feel when singing within the warmth of their temples. Live music was my temple. Or so I thought. This pandemic has recalibrated my entire relationship to music.

After the city’s plows came through and hurled snow on him, his son, and some of the paths they cleared Tuesday night, Allen Lilly grabbed his car keys and hunted down the municipal vehicles.
He found the men he thought guilty of basic rudeness at nearby Garfield Community School.
Staying safe inside his vehicle, Lilly took pictures of the other guys’ snow trucks and their license plates. He then went home to call police. Lilly wants to press charges, despite the odds.
“It’s their word against my son and myself,” said Lilly, who remained “angry, very angry” on Wednesday. “This should have never happened. These guys are out here to provide a service. I pay my taxes. I’m an outstanding individual. I try to take care of my neighbors.”

A co-owner of Epping Gardens aged care home, which is at the centre of several investigations and a major class action over the deaths of 38 residents from COVID-19, has gone to Greece and is unable to say when he will return.
Multimillionaire Peter Arvanitis and his wife, Areti, left Melbourne about two weeks before Christmas after receiving a travel exemption from the Australian Department of Home Affairs to attend to essential business in Athens.

His co-author, Professor Gilbert, said: An independent review, to be credible, has to have some sort of official standing. It has to be commissioned by someone â who else would commission it other than the department that is responsible for aged care?
It made sense not to include the regulator in the terms of reference because that would have been too big an undertaking, Professor Gilbert said.
A spokesman for federal Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck said the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission had been excluded from the review because its purpose was to determine what caused the outbreaks at St Basilâs and Epping Gardens, and to learn from those events. He said the actions of the commission had been thoroughly examined by the aged care royal commission, and a special Senate committee on COVID-19.
