The Daily Record reports the 61-year-old preyed on five youngsters at the facility in Glasgow in the 1970s and 80s.
Findlay was just two years into a life sentence when he died in Barlinnie. It is believed he died of natural causes.
A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service confirmed the news in a statement and said a Fatal Accident Inquiry is likely to take place in due course.
