The Breaux Bridge Head Start Academy is reopening Friday after being closed Wednesday and Thursday due to an insect infestation that required treatment from an exterminator.

Shots fired by nearby squirrel hunters cause St. Martinville schools to go on lock down

Shots fired from squirrel hunters in St. Martinville caused two schools to be temporarily placed on lock down Friday morning.
Schools Superintendent Allen Blanchard says that St. Martinville Sr. High and St. Martinville Primary were placed on lock down after shots were heard near the schools on Main Street.
The St. Martinville Police Department investigated the incident and learned that the shots heard by those in the area were from nearby squirrel hunters.
Blanchard says the all clear has been given by law enforcement and the schools are no longer on lock down.

Two schools in Louisiana were placed on a temporary lockdown Friday morning (May 7) following reports of shots being fired in the area,
KATC reports. The scary situation turned out to be inadvertently caused by nearby squirrel hunters.
St. Martinville Primary and St. Martinville Senior High were locked down Friday as a precautionary measure after shots were heard near the Main Street schools, Superintendent
Allen Blanchard confirmed. An investigation by the St. Martinville Police Department determined that the shots were fired by squirrel hunters in a nearby wooded area. Around 8:45 a.m., the lockdown was lifted and law enforcement gave the all clear, Blanchard said.
