Looks to me like Jerusalem have wised up, not a moment too soon. The time for a ceasefire will come when all of Israel’s perfectly proper military objectives have been met.
The conflict was started by Hamas, backed by Egypt and the half-crazed ayatollahs, if that is not a tautology with respect, in Iran. In addition to launching unguided rockets against Israel Hamas stirred things up amongst Israel’s Arab population. This is in turn stirred up young right-wing Israelis, some of whom went out looking for Arabs to beat up.

With some countries cautiously opening their borders to fully-vaccinated tourists, I d like to leave Australia to travel. I would not qualify for an exemption under the current rules but I m prepared to do the following: stay away for at least three months, pay a bond to cover quarantine costs on my return, and sign a waiver saying that I wouldn t expect the Australian government and its diplomats to help me get home. Is this a possible plan to get us travelling overseas again?

Teela Reid is right to extol the new school curriculum that will tell what really happened to First Nations people from the invasion to this day, but there needs to be a post-school curriculum to guide truth and justice commissions to tell all Australians what happened as proposed by the Uluru Statement from the Heart (“Truth-telling begins in school at least”, April 30). To their credit, the Victorian government has established such a commission. It is to be hoped that all other jurisdictions will follow suit.
Court To Reconsider Case of VA Men Sentenced to Life, Despite Jury’s Not-Guilty Verdict

The Virginia Court of Appeals will consider the case of two men serving life in prison for the murder of a police officer, despite a federal jury’s ‘not guilty’ verdict. It’s a complicated case that highlights how federal and state criminal prosecutions are intertwined.
An attorney for the men is asking why the state hasn’t stepped in to investigate the conviction.
