Upwards of 20 people are being diagnosed with melanoma in the Bay of Plenty each week, a leading skin doctor says. It comes after a bill ensuring all sunscreens in New Zealand met the level of SPF they claimed on the bottle passed its first reading in Parliament last week.
Anyone who produces sunscreen in this country can sell it without having to test it actually provides the level of protection they claim.

Heart surgery services at a major hospital were dysfunctional, grossly understaffed and pervaded by bullying, which put the care of patients at risk, according to a scathing review obtained by the Herald. The Waikato District Health Board commissioned an external review of cardiac surgery services in 2018. A team of Australian experts conducted the inquiry and found a broken system with a raft of problems that contributed to concerning outcomes for patients , their report said.

Robert Scott Beard was born on August 24, 1964, and passed away on March 28, 2021.
Dr. Beard was the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Shepherd University and was a nationally recognized pianist, teacher, clinician, author and recording artist. Before becoming Provost at Shepherd, he served the university in several positions, including Professor of Piano, Coordinator of Keyboard Studies, Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Provost.
Scott, as he was known, was born in Richmond, Virginia to Charles Beard and Carolyn Elizabeth (Toler) Beard, and raised in Rockville, Virginia. He showed musical talent early and began his piano studies with regional teachers Judith Ross and later Judith Siegel.
