In a June 21 letter to City Attorney Kelly Fernandez, Daniels noted that the state took longer to review the case and ultimately dismiss the complaint because of the COVID-19 pandemic and a change in the court magistrate.
Daniels’ total legal bill was $10,602 but he used $1,400 remaining in his campaign account to cover a portion of the bill.
In a one-page statement Florida Commission on Ethics Chairman JoAnne Leznoff said there was no probable cause that he violated state statues in the matter.
The item is currently on the council’s consent agenda.
A memo from Human Resources Director Alan Bullock recommends that the City Council pay the fee, since Daniels could not be represented by the city attorney because that would have been a conflict of interest.
