Protester who met Holcomb now in jail

Last June, when demonstrations about racial injustice were plaguing the state and nation, Gov. Eric Holcomb met one-on-one with an Indianapolis protester at the Governor s Residence.

The governor later released a statement saying “Historic journeys take historic first steps. Malik and I took one, together, today.”
Now Muhammad is sitting in the Marion County jail charged with 28 counts – from attempted aggravated murder and attempted assault in the first degree to unlawful manufacture of a destructive device and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm.

About 63 acres rezoned from single-family residential to general industrial near Fort Wayne International Airport is now officially the Smith Dalman Economic Development Area.
The tract at the northwest corner of Smith and Dalman roads received its final approval Tuesday with a unanimous vote from the Allen County Redevelopment Commission.
The plan for the land owned by HBC Development Corp., Fort Wayne, is to divide the tract into possibly three separate buildable areas, said Rob Young, vice president for business development for The Hagerman Group, Fort Wayne.
County gives $32,356 check to BFGoodrich

The BFGoodrich plant in Woodburn and the Allen County Redevelopment Commission have ended a successful 20-year relationship.
In 2002, the commission approved the creation of an Economic Development Area and a Tax Increment Financing district, or TIF district, around the plant to encourage its development.
TIF districts allow taxes collected from the increase in value of land when developed to be reinvested in the district, typically in infrastructure improvements.
The maximum benefit of the agreement, capped at $1.65 million, was reached recently, and a final payment was approved by the redevelopment commission in January.
