I AM concerned about the disrespect shown towards Scottish MPs in the House of Commons. Of course, no-one expects their elected representatives to be treated with kid gloves, particularly in opposition, but it now seems that the Scottish electorate are no longer represented in our democracy. This is very far from the respect and equal status that was promised in the 2014 referendum debate. I am almost 65 years old and I have never been a fan of the arcane procedures and traditions of the House. The democratic deficit seems now to be getting worse and worse. Since the SNP have, quite legitimately, formed the majority of our MPs, their voice – and by extension the voice of those who chose them – has been treated with derision and contempt. The name of the party continues to be deliberately miss-called with sinister political (not humourous) intent.

Nevada’s IT capabilities are six to eight years behind those of other states, its top technology official said in an interview with StateScoop.
Since joining the state government last August, Nevada Chief Information Officer Alan Cunningham told StateScoop said he’s watched an IT environment that was already challenged by a funding structure be further stressed by pandemic-induced budget shortfalls. He also said it suffers from a culture that doesn’t encourage cross-department collaboration, financial waste through redundant technology purchases and a foggy view of its cybersecurity risks.
“We’re at the place where we’re done,” he told StateScoop. “We can’t give you any more with the same. If you give us less, you’re going to get less back. It’s a reality.”

JAMES HOGG defies categorisation. A prolific poet, songwriter, playwright, novelist, short-story writer and parodist, he wrote with equal skill in Scots and English.
Labelled the Ettrick Shepherd, the former Borders farmhand, whose life spanned the 18th and 19th centuries, befriended many of the great writers of his day, including Walter Scott, John Galt and Allan Cunningham.
Even though he was celebrated off and on in his own lifetime, some details of the author’s life remain unclear. Records place his baptism on December 9 1770, but Hogg long believed that he had been born on January 25 1772 Burns Night, no less.
This complicates attempts to commemorate his 250th birthday, unless we embrace his fantastical world view. Fiction mattered to him more than fact. Besides, Hogg’s sestercentennial will inevitably be overshadowed by Scott’s own such celebration on August 15 this year.
AdFlow, AOSCo, Think Outdoor and TOM join the OMA

The Outdoor Media Association (OMA) has announced four new members, taking membership of the industry body to 31 members in total.
AdFlow Mobile Advertising, Australian Outdoor Sign Company (AOSCo), Think Outdoor, and Total Outdoor Media (TOM) have each joined the OMA, with AOSCo and Think Outdoor also signing on for the MOVE (Measurement of Outdoor Visibility and Exposure) audience measurement system.
Welcoming the new members, OMA CEO Charmaine Moldrich said the association is pleased to expand as it continues to build the next phase of MOVE 2.0.
“The OMA is pleased to welcome our new members. We have a very clear and innovative program for 2021, which includes updating MOVE with a digital factor in the short term, while building MOVE 2.0, our new digital and national audience measurement system, that we intend to launch in 2023,” she said.
