2021-04-20 14:31:08 GMT2021-04-20 22:31:08(Beijing Time) Xinhua English NAIROBI April 20 (Xinhua) Kenya s Benson Odhiambo is perched on his motorbike narrating a day s incident to his colleagues as they laugh raucously in response. Their animated conversation may give off the impression of a happy bunch, but nothing could be further from the truth. The group of five motorbike riders including Odhiambo plies the Eastland s route, southeast of the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. Often, they find themselves engaging in such banter to keep their minds from veering to thoughts of despair. With each one of them experiencing some hardship caused by the prevailing economic status, the latest rise in retail fuel prices is further threatening to handicap their abilities to meet their needs.

COTU Boss Atwoli Pressures Uhuru Over New Fuel Prices 15 March 2021 - 4:45 pm President Uhuru Kenyatta and COTU Sec Gen Francis Atwoli at the 42nd General Council of the Organization of Africa Trade Union Unity (OATUU) in Nairobi on September 18, 2019 File Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to move fast and suspend the revised fuel prices announced by the Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). More pain at the pump

Not spared were the prices of diesel and kerosene which respectively increased by Sh5.51 and Sh5.32, a litre, effective midnight. Thus, petrol will now retail at Sh115.18 per litre in Nairobi, while diesel and kerosene will sell for Sh101.91 and Sh92.44, respectively, until the next review on March 14. In Mombasa, a litre of petrol will cost Sh112.78, diesel Sh99.52 and kerosene Sh90.05. The products will cost Sh114.88, Sh101.81 and Sh92.36 in Nakuru and Sh115.77, Sh102.74 and Sh93.29, respectively. Motorists in Kisumu will pay Sh115.76 for a litre of petrol, Sh102.73 for diesel and Sh93.28 for kerosene. Epra attributed the rise in the prices to the increase in the average landed cost of importing fuel.
