Scott Morrison has confirmed that his 2020 plans to build a $600 million gas plant in NSW’s Hunter Valley will come to fruition. It’s a proposal that will cost a fuck-tonne of money
and put out a fuck-tonne of emissions, but let’s talk about why the hell this is even going down.
The gas-fired power station, which will be built in Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley region, is essentially going to be built to replace the Liddell coal power plant, which will be shutting down in 2023.
In basic terms, the Liddell Power Station in Muswellbrook produced 1,680 megawatts of power, and to compensate for that loss, the Morrison Government aims to build this new gas plant, which will produce 660 megawatts.
