NEW ORLEANS Crews began, on Tuesday, dismantling some of New Orleans most recent historical landmarks of the 20th Century payphone kiosks.
The city s Department of Public Works will remove the 77 payphones 10 at a time to be sold at public auction, thanks to a New Orleans resident who made a list.
When it came to figuring out which payphones to remove, New Orleans City Councilwoman Helena Moreno said one of her constituents did most of the legwork.
“This is the result of work begun by a constituent named Michael Burnside who documented countless broken payphones in all different neighborhoods and turned over the information to our office,” Moreno said

NEW ORLEANS The city of New Orleans is making good on its promise to shut down bars and businesses not following guidelines ordered to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“We spent almost 10, 11 months now providing, guiding, educating, supporting businesses being in compliance and reopening safely,” New Orleans Deputy CAO Peter Bowen said. “The time for warnings has passed.”

NEW ORLEANS The first week of the Covid-19 vaccine roll out at the Veterans Affairs Hospital New Orleans, one of five VA facilities in the country to administer the vaccine, went better than anticipated as hundreds of health care workers and a handful of veterans received the first of two shots during a busy and often emotional few days last week.

NEW ORLEANS A handful of veterans and dozens of medical staff members at the New Orleans Veteran Affairs Hospital received the COVID-19 vaccine Monday afternoon, a historic moment in what medical leaders are calling a turning point in the deadly pandemic.
Inside a basketball gym in the hospital, 40 staff members were given the first of two shots of the newly released vaccine. Six veterans from the long-term care facility also received the shot. Christine Aucoin, a registered nurse from Metairie, was the first person at the VA to get the shot.
