BATAVIA â One quick and notable thing about the regionâs COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
Back in January, youâd hear stories of desperation â in one case, a person drove all the way from New York City to the Wyoming County Highway Department just to get a shot. Or a âpop upâ clinic at GCC getting swamped with people from outside the area within about 20 minutes of its announcement.
Thatâs not the case now, as area health departments offer more and more clinics, with vaccinations becoming easier for those who want them. The percentages of vaccinated residents is slowly creeping up.

MEDINA, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments (GO Health) will host a first dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Medina Monday.
The clinic will take place at the Ridgeway Fire Hall, Route 104, Medina from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Officials say they are targeting Genesee and Orleans County residents, but the clinic will be open to all eligible New Yorkers 18 and older.
âThis clinic is open to anyone who is 18 and older. We want to see this clinic filled up with those who can also commit to returning for the second dose of the Moderna vaccine 28 days later, said Paul Pettit, Public Health Director for GO Health.
When will children be eligible to be vaccinated for COVID-19?
(TNS) â As the number of adults in the U.S. who have been vaccinated for COVID-19 continues to increase, children under 16 arenât authorized to receive COVID-19 vaccines. Children who are 16 and up can receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, but no one under 18 is eligible for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
âTrials are ongoing now for pediatric populations,â says Dr. Melanie Swift, co-chair of Mayo Clinicâs COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation and Distribution Work Group. âChildren are being vaccinated in studies now and will continue to be. There are several manufacturers that are doing pediatric trials.â
