BATAVIA â One quick and notable thing about the regionâs COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
Back in January, youâd hear stories of desperation â in one case, a person drove all the way from New York City to the Wyoming County Highway Department just to get a shot. Or a âpop upâ clinic at GCC getting swamped with people from outside the area within about 20 minutes of its announcement.
Thatâs not the case now, as area health departments offer more and more clinics, with vaccinations becoming easier for those who want them. The percentages of vaccinated residents is slowly creeping up.
The deaths included two each in Wyoming and Livingston counties, and one in Genesee County.
The Genesee County death involved a person greater than 65 years old. The Livingston County cases involved people residing in Avon and Lima, but no other information was available.
Genesee County reported four new hospitalizations, while Orleans County reported one additional hospitalization. Twenty-five new cases were also reported at nursing facilities in Genesee County.
âOur thoughts are with the families of those in our community who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly those who are suffering with illness or families who have lost loved ones,â said Chairwoman Rebecca Ryan of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors in a statement. âThe holidays can be a particularly difficult time and we keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers at this normally festive season of the year.
