LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lawmakers on Capitol Hill the Bipartisan Border Solutions Bill on Thursday, which strives to reform our current immigration system, starting with border intake and processing.
Senator Cornyn, along with other state representatives in both chambers, hope this bill will process migrants more efficiently. Currently, lawmakers say there is a two-and-half-year backlog on asylum claims.
Along with the backlog, at least 15,000 migrants have been released on an honor system because the border is overwhelmed. The honor system asks migrants to turn themselves into ICE within 60 days of their arrival.

The U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras are settling on a border security agreement.
The Biden administration s special assistant on immigration policy Tyler Moran said on Monday the agreement calls for the three foreign governments to curb human smuggling activity.
Moran says thousands of ad spots are being aired in Latin America in several languages in an effort to encourage people to remain in their countries.
