Baylor wrote an unlikely chapter to its men’s basketball story on Monday night, winning the program’s first national championship with an 86-70 victory over Gonzaga.
The Bears dominated the previously undefeated Zags from opening tip to final whistle, much like they ruled the tournament. Only one of Baylor’s six NCAA victories was decided by less than double figures. Its average margin of victory in the final two wins in Indianapolis was a staggering 17.5 points.
“Our guys have been motivated all year,’’ coach Scott Drew said afterward. “We’re a culture of joy. They came out and fed off each other.”

Tennessee linebacker Aaron Beasley has been suspended indefinitely amid an animal cruelty investigation, the Volunteers announced on Monday.
Beasley has been accused of abusing Nugget, a six-month-old kitten. Nugget is now in critical condition, per The Athletic s David Ubben. No charges have been filed as of Monday evening, though an investigation is ongoing. We have received the incident report from the Knoxville Police Department, Tennessee said in a statement. Aaron Beasley has been suspended indefinitely from all football team activities as we await further information.
An incident report filed with the Knoxville Police Department said Nugget was taken to the vet due to severe trauma, per 247Sports. Beasley is accused of hitting and kicking Nugget, as well as forcing the kitten into the toilet bowl before shutting the lid.

A 6-month-old kitten named Nugget was allegedly kicked, put into a toilet, and locked inside a bathroom by a University of Tennessee football player named Aaron Beasley. According to reports, Beasley’s girlfriend and roommate waited for hours before bothering to open the bathroom door to let the kitten out, rather than immediately calling the police.
The girlfriend claims to have not seen any abuse. However, a third roommate reportedly told police that Beasley’s girlfriend had sent her a text saying her boyfriend had put Nugget in the toilet. Reports state that she also told them the girlfriend had been crying and telling Beasley he could not do what he was doing during the alleged incident.
