TALENT, Ore. The annual “Frostbite Run” in Talent started Saturday.
The race normally is one day and includes between 200 and 300 people, but with COVID restrictions continuing, the race is virtual this time around.
The course starts at Talent Middle School and runners have the option for a 5k or 10k.
Runners are mostly from the Rogue Valley, but there is someone even in Ireland registered to run.
“It’s one of the largest ones that we do,” Race Director, Ken Heywood, said. “It’s the beginning of the year, everybody’s making their resolutions, getting out there and getting fit. You lose some of those fair-weather runners when it’s cold and wet, but for us hard-core runners, it doesn’t matter,” he added.
JACKSONVILLE, Ore. The Jacksonville Boosters Club is looking for volunteers to adopt a block at the cemetery.
The “Adopt-a-Block” program is for people who can make a one-year commitment to look after and care for a section of the Jacksonville Cemetery.
Cemetery blocks are roughly 20 feet square with varying numbers of graves.
Organizers suggest volunteers make at least four visits to their block a year for things like sweeping, raking and weeding.
Also, a small group of boosters are refinishing the 27 benches located throughout the cemetery.
They will all be refinished and in place by Memorial Day.
If you’re interested in volunteering, call the co-directors Mike and Don at 541-899-5273 or 541-899-6815.
ASHLAND, Ore. Mount Ashland Ski Area is getting some national attention after featured in a magazine.
The quarterly magazine “Freeskier,” based out of Colorado, contacted General Manager, Hiram Towle, just a couple months ago.
Towle said he is always excited to get national attention.
He said it helps attract visitors from out of the area and experience what the ski area has to offer.
“We are not a destination ski resort, we’re just a ski area that does appreciate when people come here, they find us, they realize that our terrain is spectacular, we’re affordable, we’ve got an amazing vibe, good for families and pretty much all of that,” Towle said.
