Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a year ago today (March 11, 2020) when the first case of COVID 19 was announced in Olmsted County.
The person had recently traveled to another country where the virus was already spreading and was tested at Mayo Clinic the day before. The person did not require hospitalization and recovered at home.
But Olmsted County public health officials scrambled when they received the information and scheduled a news conference where the story was shared with statewide media.
The county has since added nearly 12,000 more positive cases to its total, along with 93 deaths as of Wednesday.

The Jawn is Papi Salâs fusion of Puerto Rican and Italian American cuisines: Puerto Rican pork lechon, Provolone cheese, sofrito mayo, and oil-roasted long peppers on a freshly baked Italian baguette.
When John Hatch was growing up in the Italian American neighborhood of Roxborough in Northwest Philadelphia, his parents expressed their love the way most Italian families do: through food. âAny time my friends came over, [my mom] wouldnât leave them alone till they were fed,â Hatch says.
But questions about his identity lingered. Hatch could tell by the way his classmates treated him that he was different. At 18, he finally got some answers: he learned he was adopted, and of multiracial Puerto Rican and Russian descent. His first dive into his newly discovered Puerto Rican identity was, of course, through food.Â

Mantorville, MN (KROC-AM News) - Firefighters from several communities were called out in the subzero cold early Saturday to put out another fire in the Mantorville apartment building where a fire earlier this week claimed a woman’s life.
Based on emergency services radio communications, the fire in what was left of the Chestnut Apartments was reported around 2 AM. Mantorville firefighters, along with crews from at least two nearby communities were at the scene for several hours. Information about what might have started the fire is not available.
