ISLAMABAD: A microbiologist on Wednesday said though some black fungus cases had been reported in Pakistan, situation is not as alarming as in India. However, the number of cases can increase in coming days, he added.
Talking to
Dawn, he said while around 5pc of patients are severely affected and hospitalised due to the Covid-19 related complications, black fungus is going to become another major challenge.
Microbiologist Dr Javaid Usman said that fungus occurs in those whose immune system was compromised.
ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan on Tuesday urged people not to pay heed to rumours about the efficacy and side-effects of the Covid-19 vaccine being administered in the country.
Addressing a news conference, Dr Sultan said the number of cases was reducing and it was proof that people were following non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs).
“I want to thank people for following standard operating procedures (SOPs), and once again stress on wearing of masks and getting vaccinated. We have been procuring vaccines from different sources and an uninterrupted supply will be ensured,” the special assistant said.
Atleast 120 more die from coronavirus in Pakistan

Pakistan reported 120 more deaths from coronavirus, taking the national death toll to 18,797 on Saturday, according to the figures provided by the National Command and Operation Centre(NCOC).
About 4,109 more people contracted the infection, increasing the total caseload to 854,240 nationwide.
The daily data issued by NCOC showed that Pakistan carried out 48,103 COVID-19 tests, out of which more than 4,000 returned positive.
Punjab currently leads the provinces and federating units in most cases with 316,334, Sindh is second with 290,756 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 123,150 cases, Islamabad 77,684 cases, Balochistan 23,186 cases, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 17,763 cases, and Gilgit Baltistan 5367 cases.
