Proposal approved to procure vaccines from China
The government approved a proposal in principle to procure SARS COV 2 (COVID-19) vaccines from Sinopharm of China under Direct Procurement Method (DPM) in order to meet the growing demand of vaccines in the country.
The approval came from the 15th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in this year held virtually today with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Sahida Akhter said that the proposal was given approval considering protection of public health, reducing COVID-19 infection rate on emergency state purpose.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Hanif, a lawmaker from Kushtia-3 (Sadar), condemned the incident.
He said what happened to Rozina at the Secretariat was very saddening and unexpected.
Hanif said the media is the mirror of the society through which people get the accurate picture of the country. It also acts as a supporting force for the government.
Therefore, there should be good relations between the government and the media, but the corrupt people cause disruptions to this at times, he added. JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED
Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq has assured that justice will be served for senior journalist Rozina Islam.
Family says will sue Secretariat officials who assaulted Rozina

The family of Prothom Alo s Senior Reporter Rozina Islam will file a case over her assault at the Secretariat yesterday.
Those who tortured, assaulted and confined Rozina will be sued, her husband Monirul Islam said when reporters asked him whether he was going to take any legal action in this regard. Everyone has the video footage of Rozina being tortured, he said while talking to media on the court premises.
Rozina was kept confined at the Secretariat for more than five hours yesterday, over allegation that she stole public documents. Later, she was handed over to police.
