SPRINGFIELD Some Democratic lawmakers want to repeal an abortion law that requires girls who are seeking an abortion to notify their parents at least 48 hours before the procedure, with some exceptions.
Under the current law, the notice requirement doesn t apply if a minor is accompanied by an adult family member, such as a parent, grandparent, stepparent or legal guardian, or if an adult family member waives the notice in writing.
Additionally, there are exceptions for minors who are victims of physical or sexual abuse or neglect by an adult family member. Exceptions to the 48-hour notice requirement also apply in cases where the minor is married, divorced or widowed, if the minor has been legally emancipated, or if the health care provider determines that there is a medical emergency.
Suburban Cook County residents who are ages 16 to 65 and have certain medical conditions will be eligible for vaccination with appointments available online at noon on Friday.

Even if every adult in Illinois elected to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, that s still not enough people to achieve herd immunity.
Most health experts believe at least 80% of the population needs a vaccine to potentially reach that immunity goal, though many suspect it s even higher.

Tom Bucalo doesn t mind being one of the first in the state to get Johnson & Johnson s COVID-19 vaccine.
The Hoffman Estates man said he was hoping to get the single-dose vaccine when he secured an appointment slot for Friday s opening day of the Cook County Health System s mass vaccination site in Des Plaines.
Getting an appointment yesterday was a challenge. It was like getting tickets to a rock concert, Bucalo said. But I was hoping for (Johnson & Johnson). It s one shot, and I was more confident in what they were saying for the future, meaning the other variants.
