Colombia exceeds 120,000 COVID-19 deaths, vaccination woes persist

Colombia exceeds 120,000 COVID-19 deaths, vaccination woes persist July 29, 2021 More than 120,000 people have died of COVID-19 in Colombia, the Health Ministry said Thursday amid persistent problems to vaccinate the country’s population. So far, regional health authorities have fully vaccinated more than 11.7 million people of Colombia’s population of 51 million. President Ivan Duque and Health Minister Fernando Ruiz vowed to vaccinate almost 36 million people, the equivalent of 70% of the population, before the end of the year. The government may fail to meet this target, however, as vaccine distribution problems persist and some citizens continue to be reluctant to report for vaccination.
