However housing lawyer Machrus Siregar from Community Law Wellington explained there were complications if the landlord had not complied after that 90 day period.

Williams said her officials were looking into the matter, and it was expected any changes necessary would happen in the next few months. ”We’re looking at new builds, we are looking at apartments particularly, because we’re not sure we’ve got those settings right, that work is underway,” Williams said. However, the analysis is not a priority for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development – and no new advice will be imminent despite the deadline for new or renewed tenancies to meet the Healthy Homes Standards approaching in July this year. A Christchurch landlord raised the issue with Stuff, saying he believed getting bigger heat pumps was wasteful and could lead to tenants not heating their homes.
