The mobile operator Orange Slovensko has launched a high-speed 5G network in Slovakia. It is available for residents of Bratislava s Petržalka district and residents of a selected part of Banská Bystrica. It will be gradually expanded to other parts of Slovakia.

The new network is now available to residents of the Bratislava district of Petržalka and residents of a selected part of Banská Bystrica. The news concludes the company’s three-year-long investment in the modernisation of the mobile network worth €144 million. Thanks to the most extensive modernisation of our network, we were able to start implementing several ambitious projects, including the construction of the first real high-speed 5G network in Slovakia, which brings extremely high transmission speeds and low latency,” said Federico Colom (pictured), CEO, Orange Slovakia.

Orange is launching Slovakia s first 5G network today, after spending three years and €144 million modernising its mobile network.
Orange’s 5G uses the latest Massive MIMO technology to improve the efficiency and speed of data transfer at 3.5 GHz.
Customers can transfer data at theoretical speeds up to 1300Mbps for downloading, and 130 Mbps for sending files, although data download speed can exceed 600Mbps.

Slovakian cellcos 4ka and Orange Slovakia have both revealed that they expect to launch commercial 5G services by April.
The news comes hot on the heels of O2 Slovakia selecting Ericsson as its 5G partner, although the operator declined to specify a proposed launch date. Slovak Telekom gained the first mover advantage, launching 5G in eight districts of Bratislava in December 2020.
