WISE Project connects LGBTQ people in North Carolina

LGBTQ people throughout history have found ways to connect with each other and make powerful contributions to the survival of their communities.   What grew out of a need to address ageism and intergenerational disconnection within the LGBTQ community became the WISE Project.   Created by Gray Rodgers in early 2020, the Chapel Hill-based project aims to address the needs of LGBTQ people in North Carolina across generations through community and peer support programs, and creating spaces to share stories.   We re understanding that intergenerational connections in our community really kept us surviving, and that s true of so many cultures, but especially true of our community, Rodgers said. Now to think of what could those connections bring to keep us thriving as well to give back to that community of elders who really went through some things that even myself can t imagine.
