Oakland, CA-On Friday, June 11, 2021, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Oakland/ Bay Area Chapter (NCBW) will host its 23rd Annual Madam C.J. Walker Business & Community Recognition Luncheon & Empowerment Forum virtually. Madam C.J. Walkerâs legacy as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, political and social activist is a role model to many. This annual fundraising luncheon event is held in her name and honors four Bay Area women who have made an impact through leadership in their communities.
This year the keynote speaker is six-time New York Timesâ best-selling author and NAACP Image Award Winner, Ms. Iyanla Vanzant. This yearâs honorees are Aimee Allison, Founder and President, She the People; Nicole Felix, Chief Operating Officer, Pound Bizness; Tanzanika Carter, Assistant Sheriff, San Francisco Sheriffâs Office; and Vera Moore, Market Manager-Community Engagement, Corporate Responsibility, JP Morgan Chase.
The 13th Shanghai Biennale announces participants for main exhibition

.- The Power Station of Art announced the culmination of the 13th Shanghai Biennale, Bodies of Water. Its main exhibition PHASE 03: AN EXHIBITION opens on April 17, 2021, with 64 participating artists presenting projects, including 33 new commissions, presented at the PSA and other venues across Shanghai.
To challenge the traditional biennale format and explore the participant-public divide, the Biennale is unfolding over the course of nine months as an in crescendo project. It began in November 2020 with PHASE 01: A WET-RUN REHEARSAL, a five-day inaugural program, and was followed by PHASE 02: AN ECOSYSTEM OF ALLIANCES, five months of activity and programing. This allowed the artists, thinkers and curators involved in the Biennale to develop their work in close collaboration with the City of Shanghai, its people
DENISE BROWN
Funeral services were held March 29 for Denise Brown, 67, of Jersey City. She passed away March 22. She was born on July 29, 1953 to the late Aquiline and William Brown. Denise was a retired social service coordinator/ property manager who worked in the housing industry for 24 years, she was employed by Interstate Reality Management/Michael’s Development Company. Taking care of others was always in Denise’s DNA. Before working in the housing Industry, in 1990 She worked for CET of Jersey City (Employment and Training) as a Case Manager. This program mainly focused on the needs of the homeless population. Working in this position is when she realized that helping those in need was very fulfilling. Denise was known for her great baking skills. Her pineapple upside-down cake, lemon pound cake, and verity of cupcakes were unmatched. Baking and crocheting had become her favorite pastime. Last year, Kenny Robinson often called the Godfather of Canadian comedy marked the 25th anniversary of his Nubian show, which helped kickstart the careers of Black and POC comics like Russell Peters, Jean Paul, Keith Pedro, and Dana Alexander.
He marked the occasion with a CD release,
Kenny Robinson’s Nubian Comedy Revue: The Next 25, and before the pandemic’s second wave he was hoping to follow it up with a Nubian Queens Of Comedy album featuring all-female comics and hosted by Keesha Brownie.
