Laugh Tracks: A Few Good Shows

With half of the shows standing up their fans this week, there was more of a chance for greatness to shine through instead of falling through the cracks. Anticipation for next week’s shows is rising as NBC is coming back with all new episodes as Michael Scott prepares for his inevitably tearful farewell on The Office. HIMYM is leaving us fondly remembering Robin’s new dog, I mean boyfriend, while they wait a couple of weeks until they re-return. As a result, it was left up to Mad Love to wow the CBS audience. Kate’s sister Julia is coming to visit NY and, as the older sister, Kate’s protection takes the form of coddling her twenty five-year-old sibling like she’s a ten-year-old. Brittany Snow guest stars as Julia, the mid twenty something who strives to be taken seriously as an adult and is suffocating under Kate’s big sisterly thumb. When a traditional visit to go see

How to train your baby | The Cascade

I am not a parent. I feel the need to preface this article with that small fact. Nothing bothers me more than non-parents attempting to give parenting advice because if they haven’t had to deal with hours of a screaming, teething child or known what it feels like to wipe a snotty nose with their bare hands and wipe them absent-mindedly on their jeans, they can’t really offer any suitable advice. This week she acted as Ben’s one night stand that got complicated when it turns out she’s Crystal’s new assistant. The good news is, though, that she is the female version of Ben: scared of anything more than a sexual connection and content in sitting in an arrested state of maturity when it comes to relationships. However, poor Ben begins to grow once again when it comes to relationships, but his desire to be her boyfriend is suppressed by her desire to keep

Laugh Tracks: Third time s a charm

It looks like third week’s a charm for the 2011 prime-time schedule. Now that NBC is back with three hours of comedy, there is something for everyone from Monday to Thursday (or Monday, Wednesday, Thursday until the FOX Tuesday night line-up returns with new episodes). Monday night brought laughter, but mostly tears as Marshall deals with his father’s funeral and the endless search for the greater meaning in someone’s last words while his friends try to figure out their roles in the grieving process. Lily opts for helping his mother while Robin becomes “a drug-dealer from a 1980s after-school special” and Ted and Barney try their best to make their friend laugh. There were moments of
