A great horned owl is now recovering at Liberty Wildlife in Phoenix after getting trapped in barbed wire. Jeff Miller, a building inspector from the Town of Fountain Hills, was driving home from work down the Beeline Highway near Shea Boulevard Monday when he saw the bird. While most drivers just drove past the owl, Miller turned around and came back to try and free the bird.

At least 1,000 pounds of fish, trash left on Phoenix road

At least 1,000 pounds of fish were dumped on a north Phoenix road over the weekend, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department.  The fish, along with boxes and trash from a spearfishing tournament at Lake Pleasant were dumped near 15th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road. Amy Burnett, a department spokesperson, said AZGFD was notified of the fish Monday morning around 9:30 a.m., but the pile was initially found Sunday. They have not been able to confirm when the fish were initially discarded.  However, 1,000 pounds is a mere estimate, Burnett said.  It may have been much more, from the number of large garbage cans full that were dumped at the scene, she said. Our officers approximated the area of the dumping as 15 X 15 .
